The Energy Technology program is designed to prepare students for employment in the natural gas drilling, gathering and field operations industry including Marcellus and Utica Shales and to give students a basic understanding of renewable energy technologies.  The program provides a strong foundation in oil and gas exploration, production, including development in the Appalachian Basin. Students also learn about alternative energy technologies and their applications including geothermal, solar and wind.  Laboratory classes include a strong emphasis on hands-on experiences. Safe work practices are emphasized and several industry certifications are embedded within the curriculum.  

In addition to General Education Outcomes, upon completion of this program, graduates will be able to:

• Follow conventional industrial safety and communication practices
• Perform procedures and tasks commonly used in exploration for and production of oil and gas in the Appalachian Basin
• Explain considerations that go into natural gas processing
• Use various instruments and equipment to measure fluids, temperature, flows, and pressures
• Apply principles of hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems to equipment in the energy industry
• Explain alternative energy technologies and applications

The program qualifies graduates for employment in such positions as field technicians, pumpers, drilling technicians, measurement technicians, compressor operations, and many others.  As the energy transition continues, an understanding of alternative energy system operations will become increasingly important.
