HS 150 - Introduction to Substance Abuse 3 Credit(s) This course surveys the nature and scope of substance abuse in the United States, with an emphasis on substance abuse and/or addiction related to legal or illegal substances, including alcohol, cocaine, heroin and other opiates, hallucinogens, and synthetic drugs. Course topics include the historical background of substance use, the possible causes of substance abuse problems and diagnosis and evidence-based treatment, including new methods for treating overdoses and withdrawal. This course alone does not qualify people to diagnose or treat substance abuse problems.
Pre/Corequisite(s): Satisfactory reading and writing placement or ENG 097 or ENG 101 or ENG 115
