This program is designed to prepare individuals to be technicians in the exciting fields of electrical and mechanical maintenance, installation, trouble shooting and to work alongside engineers and technologists. The highly technological, integrated, and automated manufacturing facilities of today’s modern workplace demand technicians with advanced training. Employers are looking for technicians who have strong interdisciplinary training and skillsets.

All of our technical courses have an extensive hands-on lab component as students learn skills in electrical systems, motor control, hydraulics and pneumatics, programmable logic controllers, instrumentation, workplace safety, problem solving and teamwork. These are the technical skills that employers are looking for in a technician.

As your understanding of the fundamentals grows, you will progress into more advanced courses such as: programmable controllers, pump & piping, instrumentation, and problem solving. As you advance through this program you will have the opportunity to choose an “Specialty/Emphasis On” program. This allows you to acquire more advanced training and skills in career option paths such as: Automation, Instrumentation, or Electrical Technologies. Or choose a Certificate of Applied Science in Industrial Maintenance, CAS or Energy Tech, CAS. Each of these career pathways have a set of core fundamental classes and then you will move into the chosen field of expertise. (Automation, Instrumentation or Electrical Technologies AAS.)

Upon completion of this program, graduates will be able to:

  • Describe and recognize the various mechanical and electrical components used in modern industrial and manufacturing processes.
  • Apply scientific and mathematical principles dealing with electrical, fluid power, and mechanical applications.
  • Demonstrate hands-on troubleshooting skills on mechanical and electrical components used in modern industry and manufacturing processes.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking skills for designing, installing, and maintaining mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Communicate effectively using electrical and mechanical prints and other documentation.
  • Develop professional skills through a work-based learning experience or simulation.

Job opportunities for technicians exist across a broad spectrum of industries. The petroleum, chemical, power generating, green energy, manufacturing, and fabricating industries are all looking for qualified employees.
